Summary/Abstract: The work presents the main stages in the formation of the notion of occupational disease by way of a chronological historical analysis of the legal regulation in our country. Consideration is given to the legal regime of occupational disease under Convention No. 18 of the year 1925 concerning the compensation for occupational diseases and Convention No. 42 of the year 1934 concerning the compensation for occupational diseases (revised). The study traces the separation of professional diseases from accidents at work as an independent social risk insured against, and the differentiation of professional disease from general sickness with its specific legal features. Conclusions are made regarding the type of systems for identification of occupational disease in the course of different historical periods.
