Summary/Abstract: Through this study we tried to highlight the philanthropic activity carried out by Archbishop Teofil Herineanu in the two dioceses: the Diocese of Roman and Huşi (1949-1957) and the Archdiocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj (1957-1992), in a very difficult time for the Romanian Orthodox Church, due to the establishment of the communist regime in the country. Despite the hardships of that period, both in Roman and in Cluj, Archbishop Teofil managed to keep close to his faithful, distinguishing himself through numerous acts of philanthropy for the poor, the sick and the helpless, for the theological students, for the families of the priests incarcerated in communist prisons and for the widows and orphans who asked him for material support and help. He helped everyone with money from the Diocese’s funds or from his own salary. In this way, the Transylvanian Hierarch remained in the consciousness of the Church as one of the greatest philanthropists, a man of God, who dedicated his entire existence to helping others. His philanthropic efforts are highlighted in this study based on official documents from the two dioceses, which he pastored with skill and total devotion, until his passing into eternity.
