Summary/Abstract: Phonetic comprehensibility, which is determined by applying the category of the norm, is essential precondition in the securing of mutual understanding. Limitations to phonetic comprehensibility, however, can lead to disruptions in communication, which can in turn have undesirable effects such as a failure to accept the speaker and the content s / he aims to communicate. In the light of this, the following contribution will emphasize the interplay between phonetic comprehensibility, effect, norm and acceptance and will consider empirical research on the topic.
