An Outline of the Sociolinguistic Situation in Visaginas in Lithunia

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to outline the sociolinguistic situation in Visaginas which is the least explored area where Polish is spoken in Lithuania. The author discusses the nationality, age and education of the inhabitants and the prestige and existence of particular languages in the town. The author sheds some light on the unique situation of Visaginas and explains that it is so special due to the fact that the city was set up on the Balto-Salvic border and due to the existence of many languages and various sociolinguistic processes.
