Summary/Abstract: The dialogue is held around the personality of Alexander Bernardazi, celebrated this year on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of his birth. The purpose of the conversation is to capitalize on the contribution of the architect Bernardazzi to the aesthetics of Chisinau. Activating as chief architect of the town of Chisinau between 1856–1878, the descendant of the Bernardrazzi dynasty managed to harmoniously inscribe the capital of Bessarabia at that time in the aesthetic, architectural and cultural context of Europe, but also of the Russian Empire. Alexander Bernardazzi concludes the list of Bessarabian architects from the first half of the 19th century, his name represents the beginning of another truly new period in Bessarabian rchitecture. Nineteenth-century Chisinau gained the status of “European town” thanks to the creative efforts of this talented architect. Alexander Bernardazzi became known by creating architectural constructions in several cities, such as Odessa, Fastiv, Warsaw, but also in several rural settlements in Bessarabia.
