Summary/Abstract: This study reflects the interdependence between the theater and the socio-political phenomena in the creation of documentary theater directors and playwrights, starting with the forerunner of the genre, Bertolt Brecht, theorist and director, continuing with Erwin Piscator, the first director to introduce the document in the performance art and Peter Weiss, whose dramaturgy is considered by specialized criticism as the classic of the documentary theater. In recent decades, influenced by European creators, the directors and play wrights in the Romanian space, promote and practice a documentary theater inspiredby socio-political realities. In this order of ideas, relevant are the volumes of the documentary texts “Political Theater 2009-2017”, coordinated by Mihaela Michailov and David Schwartz and „Chisinau, April 7. Theater-document”, including plays byIrina Nechit, Mihai Fusu, Dumitru Crudu, Constantin Cheianu.
