Summary/Abstract: In the article acoustic parameters (size, direction and duration of difference of frequency of the second formant) of initial elements in stressed vowels of the Lithuanian literary language in a position after hard and soft noisy consonants are analyzed. The researches of Russian language have shown that in a position after soft consonants all vowels (except [i]) in the beginning of sounding are characterized by increase of frequency of the second formant. At an acoustic level, thus, transitive sites between consonant and vowel contain the information on hardness – softness of the consonant. The results of the spectral analysis of transitive sites in syllables CV/C’V of the Lithuanian literary language testify to regular increase of frequency of the second formant of a vowel on border with a soft consonant only in syllables with velar [k’], [g’] (irrespective of the quality of a vowel) and in syllables with back vowels [a], [u], [u:] (irrespective of the quality of a previous consonant). In other investigated syllables the change of frequency by the second formant of vowel varies depending on the quality of components of a syllable: transitive sites from soft consonant to vowel are characterized by negative and zero difference of frequency FII; in these cases initial elements of the Lithuanian vowels do not contain the information on softness of the previous consonant.
