Summary/Abstract: The leader of Podemos has officially announced that he will withdraw from Spain’s political stage, which could mark the beginning of a downfall of this party. The 5-star movement is declining and Syriza has turned in the direction of a classical left party after they lost the elections. These parties share a meteoric rise in the aftermath of the 2008-2009 financial crisis. There is a theoretical background to explain the formation and rise of these parties: it is asserted that we are in the era of a “digital populism”, that there are “digital parties” or that the model of the “Digital Prince” type political leader has emerged, as many other authors theorized the “bubble democracy” model, based on the virtually practiced politics. The article takes into consideration these explicative models to see whether the notion of “digital party” accurately describes the evolution of the political parties in their rise and fall stage.
