Summary/Abstract: Women are more likely to use the standard variety, while men are more likely to use the non-standard variety. The factors that influence the use of one or the other variety are of different nature. The former use the standard language more in order to maintain their distance with officials, be more cautious, show more respect, make better impressions, arouse conviction and confidence that they are competent, be better valued, improve their image and thus regulate their position in society. This means that such selection occurs under the pressure of different standards by which men and women are valued. While men are more valued for their profession or skills, the same is not applied for women. They are most valued for other status features, including speech.
