Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses connotation and its participation in building of metaphorical meaning. It focuses particularly on animal names, used as words of an invective. The study proposes a new partition of connotations, namely motivated connotations and intuitive connotations. After analyzing the data this study found out that intuitive connotations are more frequent in building invective metaphors.
