Summary/Abstract: The Austro-Hungarian occupation of Peja in December 1915 was also reflected in the economic life of this city. Peja and its environs were included in the administrative boundaries of the Austro-Hungarian General Military Government in Montenegro, which had its headquarters in Cetina. After the installation of administrative mechanisms and the establishment of order, began the implementation of Austro-Hungarian economic policies in Peja, which reflected in certain economic sectors of this city. The Austro-Hungarian authorities promoted the development of trade, handicrafts, gastronomy and hostels, which aimed to create a service infrastructure in order to improve the living standards of the population. This economic policy aroused the interest of the wealthy strata of the city (Muslim and Christian Albanians and Serbo-Montenegrin Christians) to start anew or open new shops of an economic character. In 1918, the newspaper Cetinjer Zeitung published the results of their registration by the civil department. The register shows that in the city of Peja were 32 types of shops, which in total reached 381 of them. The city was dominated by tradespeople, who had specialty shops and general goods.
