Summary/Abstract: The article briefly analyzes the role and the place of the AmericanMissile Shield - SM-3 from Deveselu, as a component of the USA anti-aircraft shield, mainly for the defense of American forces deployed in Europe, but also for the antiaircraft defense of Romania, against a NATO / OTAN enemy airstrike. The authors of the article analyze the current international political and military situation, then analyze the evolution of air attacks and air defenses in the two world wars, the breakthroughs, both in modernizing the technique of air attacks and air defenses and places where the US and Russian air bases are located. The authors then set out their views on the role of the Deveselu air base and its importance in defending against missile attacks from Iran or possible attacks from enemy countries.
