Summary/Abstract: Hernia cases have been observed in almost every job and age group in the Ottoman Empire especially in people working in professions that require body strength. This study discusses the government's social liabilities during and after the treatments of the people diagnosed with a hernia in the Ottoman Empire between 1789 and 1912. After mentioning the hernia shortly in the introductory chapter of the study, age and occupational accidents that are the reasons behind hernia in people in the Ottoman Empire are handled in the center. In the continuation of the study, the chosen treatment methods of treating hernia are deliberated. At this point, the treatment methods are split into two categories as surgical and alternative and the preference of these treatment methods among patients, their effect on the patients health, legal liabilities of the surgeons, and the attitude of the government against the treatment methods are shown. In the last chapter of the study, government's social liabilities during and after the treatment process of the disease are handled. In this chapter, the resources offered by the government are deliberated and afterward, the retirement issue of the people that have not healed after the treatment and the procedure applied on retiring are reviewed.
