Summary/Abstract: The current trend in constitutional democracies of Europe is amplifying the role of head of Government in the executive branch to the detriment of head of state (monarch or president). France is an exception, because the President has preeminence over the Prime Minister due to the powers conferred by the Constitution. In this paper, we refer to the relationships between the Head of State and the Prime Minister in some semipresidential republics, like France, Finland, Portugal, Austria and Ireland.
