The use of social disorganisation theory to study the spatial variation of crime

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to present the possibilities of using social disorganisation theory to study the spatial variation of crime. The assumptions of this theory are discussed and studies using this theory are overviewed. The description of these studies focused on the spatial scale and scope of the research, types and sources of crime rates, which are dependent variables in the regression analysis, the choice of socio-economic characteristics, which are the independent variables in the regression analysis and the corresponding elements of the theory, research results and suggestions in further research on this topic.
