Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of preschool education in rural areas in Poland compared to the situation in the city and generally in the country. The analysis of long time series (from the beginning of the transformation) allowed for showing the trend of the studied phenomenon. At the beginning of the article the importance of education at the youngest possible age is stressed, which is the base of human capital in any society. Then the level and dynamics of the number of kindergartens and children who attend them is discussed according to the previously adopted division. The article concludes with an indication of the barriers to universal access to kindergarten by children in rural areas, based on questionnaire studies conducted in dozen or so farms.
