Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research was to apply the Total Malmquist Productivity Index (TFP) and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to evaluate the effectiveness of public universities in 2004-2008. The study involved 59 universities under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The average efficiency ratio calculated for the SFA teaching model was 0.683. The average efficiency ratio calculated for the SFA scientific model (NW) was 0.528 in 2004-2008. The amount of the average Total Malmquist Productivity Index (TFP), calculated for a model of teaching (DW) was 0.925. The average Total Malmquist Productivity Index calculated for the scientific model in 2004-2008 was 1.021.
