Summary/Abstract: This article is devoted to the perception of the historical Age of Enlightenment through the lens of the modern age, which is treated as a transitional stage in the development of human culture. This stage was defined by scientists by the term «transculturalism». A characteristic of the phenomenon is the transition from modernism to postmodern culture with a typical human focus. Man treats himself as the supreme being, a being that rises above everything else, even above God. In order to assess the positive and vicious sides of this stage in the development of humanity, the article updates the historical aspect. It raises the question of the role of the Enlightenment in the development of human culture. The author states that this era cannot be treated unequivocally. It contributed to progress, but also disregarded the spiritual sphere. Man must remember that this disregard can lead to the destruction of man himself.
