Summary/Abstract: Specificity of the polymorbid elderly patients requires a different approach to determine the correct diagnosis. Recognition of pneumonia in the elderly is often more difficult, given the high incidence of co-morbidities and clinical picture usually contains non-specific and universal factors in the form of so-called. „overall deterioration of health.“ Scoring systems (evaluation scales) are methods of pneumonia risk assessment that predict mortality and are useful in clinical management (relevant treatment procedures, consideration of patient hospitalization, mechanical ventilation requirements).
