Summary/Abstract: Economic theory of democracy, which is one of the most important elements of public choice theory, introduces economic tools into the analysis of social and political phenomena. Economic analyses are becoming the basis for decision making, and the studies of principles of state functioning and the behavior of voters can be measured by the economic indicators. Effectiveness in local government elections, in the consensus opinion of many political scientists and sociologists, depends on many socio-economic factors. However, Anthony Downs shows that voters are guided by self-interest. Can this business be a subjective assessment of every voter as to the standard of living in his community? The answer is not clear, but a lot of evidence confirms this view.
