Summary/Abstract: The exchange rate policy in open economies is considered a very important tool of monetary policy. At the same time competition is a base for open market economy while the ability of economic units to compete is defined as competitiveness. Exchange rate has got considerable influence on the entire domestic economy as well as on its particular sectors. Economic integration with the EU led to a fact that the impact of the EU economic policies on Polish economy is to a large extent determined by the exchange rate. It also refers to the food sector which is under the influence of the CAP as well. The performance of Polish agriculture and food industry as regards foreign trade can be perceived as an improvement in internatio- nal competitiveness. Therefore there is a question to be raised to what extent the competitiveness of Polish food on foreign markets has been determined by changes in the exchange rate.
