Summary/Abstract: The Territory of Cumania was from the river Volga to the river Danube. According to the Codex Cumanicus, the Cumans spoke North Turkic, not Ottoman Turkic. The Cumans were the army of the brothers Peter, Assen and Kaloyan after 1186 against the Byzantines and crusaders. Not Cuman, but Bulgarian is the name of Tsar Assen I. The name originated from ancient Sumer and Egypt. It means star (Zvezdan, Zvezdelin – bulg.). Tsar Assen`s nickname Belgun comes from the Bulgarian patronymic.
