Summary/Abstract: The article presents an attempt at a philosophical analysis of punctuation, applying the cognitive approach in presenting the relationship between definitive sentence features and punctuation as a graph of the sentence, generally speaking. Punctuation is presented as a metalanguage and a graphic explication of the metalanguage. It is based on the cognitive mode as a prototype of a metalanguage. This explains the variability of punctuation marks in the same syntactic position, on the one hand, and the homonymy of punctuation marks in different syntactic positions, on the other.
