Summary/Abstract: Rigorous monitoring of information from open sources in order to maintain national security and safety is an obligation to be assumed by any intelligence service of state. In the paper, we have presented the evolution of the OSINT phenomenon ever since its appearance - during the Second World War - until now. We have also highlighted the places where national safety and relevant information can be identified today.Starting from the classic Google and continuing with „darkweb” and social media, in this paper we listed the forms under which extremely important data for OSINT practitioners can be found. Last but not least, I thought it would be expedient, at the end of the paper, to briefly present a number of tools that can extract - from Facebook - and then analyze a series of important information for any OSINT analyst.
