We first briefly describe the docu ment written in Romanian making use of the Cyrillic alphabet – a letter addressed by Neacșu Lupu, the merchant mayor of Câmpulung, in today’s Argeș County, Romania, to Johannes Benkner, the merchant mayor of Brașov, in today’s homonym county, Romania, describing the movements of the Ottoman troops on the banks of the Danube River. Next, we pre sent the educational contexts in which Romanian and foreign learners are exposed to the letter, as well as some of the numerous academic research studies that have focused on the document over the decades, and refer to the diverse academic, diplomatic, cultural and media events dedicated to this paramount celebration of Romania’s leading cultural landmark.
