Summary/Abstract: The First World War caused huge losses to the Romanian people. These are estimated at 336,000 soldiers and officers killed throughout Europe, to which were added another 275,000 civilian deaths. If we take into account that the soldiers who died in the war were young, strong men, and most of them left behind families with children, we are faced with the catastrophic scale of the social situation after the First World War. Based on these statistics and on the premise of investigating the evolution of the families of the heroes of the First World War, this research was structured and applied to the village of Stroești – Argeș. Analyzing the evolution, for a century, of the family of the hero Dumitru Z. Beldie, valuable conclusions have been drawn which prove that, beyond the supreme sacrifice, from the families of heroes, over time, descendants with real skills in the scientific, technical, social and administrative fields have emerged. The approach of this research has allowed the creation of guidelines and a model, validated by the present article, which allows the extension of the research to other case studies and its extrapolation to other communities and geographical areas.
