Exploring the Technical Competencies of Primary School Teachers

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author presents the results of an examination of technical competences of primary school teachers through self-evaluation of their own activities. Identifying the strengths and weaknesses, setting priorities and planning the activities to improve the quality of education – all of this enable teachers to develop their professional technical competences relevant to educational practice. The results of this research show the degree of importance that primary school teachers attach to the examined technical activities and competences. The research was carried out in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and involved more than 500 primary school teachers in Slovakia. The research findings from a questionnaire survey and the analyses are compared and scientifically discussed with the findings of research carried out by the experts in this field. The author stresses the importance of reflection and development of didactic-technical competences, as well as the need of changing the teachers' approach to self-education, of building new and improving the acquired technical competences, including in the framework of continuous education.
