Summary/Abstract: The Sacred Slave Song occupies an important part of the history of music in the United States. Also called African-American Spirituals or Negro Spirituals they are very different than the so-called White Gospel Spirituals and hymns.The Sacred Slave Songs played a role in the underground railroad and in the abolition of slavery. This short presentation will summarize some of their history.
