- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with the contribution of Alija Isaković to the affirmation of Bosniak and Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature and the Bosnian language and from the late 1960s and early 1970s onwards. By contextualisation in a wider cultural or social context and understanding the original material from this time, the paper shows that the affirmation of Bosniak and Bosnian-Herzegovinian and the Bosnian language and literature were inseparable processes for Isaković, the more so because it was easier to draw attention to the essential problems of the language on the basis of the literary practice than on the basis of questions of, for example, grammatical structure and other similar issues, which were too formal and narrow or oversimplified, even often deprived from the very essence in this context. Being one of the first authors with this approach, Isaković has given one of the fundamental contributions to the ending of the multi-century process of non-recognition and denial of Bosniak and Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature and the Bosnian language and thus became one of the central figures of contemporary both literary and linguistic Bosnian studies.

- Summary/Abstract:In this paper we presented the first anthology of Bosniak literature Biserje in which Alija Isaković offered to the public a representative selection of Bosniak literature from its beginnings to the modern moment. It is especially significant that in the introductory part he established the first solid foundation and model for modern study of Bosniak literature as a separate body of literature, equal to Serbian and Croatian. In an anthological selection Isaković manages to capture the most aesthetically relevant texts of different genres in both synchronic and diachronic axis. With a model of representing top literary quality, he emphasizes the model of creatively stimulating continuity: oral literature, older literature (in Oriental languages and alhamijado literature), the literature of Polet and Let and contemporary literature.

- Summary/Abstract:Inspired by the Bosniak oral ballad, Alija Isaković published the play Hasanaginica in 1981. In an effort to approach the “realities of life, morals and the language of the ballad”, Isaković included examples of Bosniak oral and written literature created during the four centuries of the Ottoman rule in Bosnia in the text of the play. The aims of the paper are to isolate examples of oral lyrics and epic, the frontier-soldiers’ letters and Aljamiado literature, analyze them and establish the functions they have in the dramatic text.

- Summary/Abstract:The negation of consistent claims regarding the application of constant form and style in artistic expression is an indication of the initiative of individuals in creative literary circles, in which writers of new tendencies appear. In essence, a tendency is drawn, in which they try to “modernize” and place innovative attitudes, as models that should be written. The avant-garde approach, in the processing of the drama text, is a new way of defining and elaborating the leading problem, which has infiltrated into the contemporary expression of this type of literary creativity. Overcoming and opposing templates, within the framework of classic drama expression models, related to the stereotypical shaping of the composition, fabulas, character, is an indicator of these new tendencies in literary and artistic attitudes and the overall theater activity. In the center of interest of Alija Isaković, a playwright and theater worker, he is, above all, a man, an isolated individual, and a compassion for his fate, which he learned painfully, and he could not change it. The tragic determinant of his characters, who are the main protagonists of dramatic stories, is more pronounced, with the fact that it is about individuals who are experiencing this tragedy intensively by projecting it into reality. Fully aware, chaotic situations in which civilization falls deeper and deeper, which cause disrespect for any moral determinations, unjustified conflicts, accusations, violence and death; they try, by their own sacrifice and rebellion, to point out the devaluation of human values and violence against man and mankind. Alija Isaković (1932-1997.), in addition to the offered dramatic texts and critical reviews, significantly marked the modern drama in Bosnia and Herzegovina and confirmed his aspirations for the contemporary European literature of the second half of the 20th century with his overall work in the area of literary art. This work will be devoted to the analysis of two of his plays To (1979/81.) and Generalijum (1979/81), which are representative of this author, as one of the pioneers of the new approach to the processing of drama motives and writing dramatic texts.

Detecting its forms in literary text is a complex task that requires a two-way engagement, i. e. it is created by the dual relationship between an author and a reader of a text. Alija Isaković is one of the authors in whose prose works the ironic discourse is present in various forms. The paper discusses to what extent ironic discourse contributes to the formation of structure and meaning of a text, as well aswhat its modificationsare in Isaković’s narrative process.irony; discourse; Alija Isaković; narrative text;

- Keywords:Alija Isaković; short stories; space; symbolization; absurd;
- Summary/Abstract:The paper analyzes selected short stories by Alija Isaković taking into account the ways of shaping space in narrative discourse. Isaković is known as an author whose poetics is modernistic, his narration, narrators and focalizers, as well as chronotopes are unfamiliarized. In terms of themes and motifs the focus of his narratives are characters belonging to the world of alienation and absurdity. Because of that, the spaces in which the plot takes place are much more symbolic spaces of anxiety rather than mimetic spaces known from the real world. Following this assumption, we will search for the role that space has and its textual shaping in the overall meaning of the narratives.

- Summary/Abstract:The paper explores Bakhtin’s concept of polyphony in Alija Isakovic’s novel Pobuna materije/The Rebellion of Matter. In literary theory, polyphony as a feature of a polyphonic novel implies the simultaneity of equal speeches of characters that are not overridden by the author’s consciousness/voice. Speaking of Dostoyevsky as the creator of the polyphonic novel, Bakhtin recognizes the basic principle of composition in his novels in “the fusion of the most diverse and incompatible materials - with a multitude of consciousness centers unattached to one ideological common denominator.” In this context, one can also read Isakovic’s novel The Rebellion of Matter, which, according to Enver Kazaz, “is organized on the principle of a dramatic polylogue, in which three narrative-drama flows occur.”

- Keywords:Mirko Kovač; Biography of Marina Trifkovic; antiheroes; repression;
- Summary/Abstract:Since it was first published, Malvina has attracted attention of a wide professional and non-professional readership, primarily as a narrative about Serbian-Croatian hatred and as the first lesbian novel in the South Slavic world. It was not only the choice of narrative forms but also that of the topic that marks Kovač’s text as open to those forms of social life placed on the margins of society and exposed to repression. Kovač builds up ironic outlines of the codes of socio-cultural milieus and of all the forms of social power, providing a parodic image of social morality based on subversive mechanisms and partial truths. The social, political, ideological, religious, ethic, and aesthetic models of the world through which one perceives reality are established in the absence of emancipated action and choice. Prohibitions and limitations, stereotypes, and taboos, and, on the opposite side, transgression (breaking of boundaries) of all the proscriptions, are the object of redescription in this work.

- Keywords:memory; narrative procedures; spatial metaphors; Mirko Kovač;
- Summary/Abstract:The paper analyses the narrative forming of personal and family memories in the family chronicle The City in the Mirror by Mirko Kovač. The mechanism of writing out memories through the mediation of the characters and spaces (houses, cities) is subverted at the same time, whereby different narrative strategies can be discerned: 1. In his autoreferential notes, the narrator emphasises a lack of equivalence between life and memory and his own subjective will to speak about selected events and in the order established by he himself; 2. His memory is also objectively disrupted by interrupting family and kinship ties and by wars and floods, which change the space and people’s way of life; 3. Family memory which precedes the narrator’s life is mediated by the remembered stories of the focalisers, older family members; 4. The narrator connects the space of childhood and growing up with the destinies of peculiar people who lived in it, so his writing memories means the creation of personal geography too. The titular metaphor of the city in the mirror refers to the city as the main character, identified with people who live in it or reflect about it, and the heterotopic character of memories, fixed in the written text like in the mirror, but deprived of the real geographic space. Thereby memory gains the status of one of the possible interpretations of life.

- Keywords:omnitemporality; anatepsis; protepsis; the rythm of storytelling; narrative anachrony;
- Summary/Abstract:The organization of story time in the novel: City in the mirror was established thanks to the value attitude and psychological attitude of the main romance hero that is author himself, who is secretly behind both the self and the narrative instance and through which he communicates. From these central subjects of the narrative structure of the novel and their interaction in the narrative text (the replacement of the narrative self and experienced self ) depends also others narrative elements among which stands out time and space as unavoidable elements of fabular, compositional and the size of the novel. The aim of this paper is to explain in more details temporal categories of the narrated and to interpret to readers the most accurate picture of “double temporality” of the atormentioned novel discourse, using Zenet’s theoretical modalities of time.
