Summary/Abstract: Artykuły w tomie umieszczono w obrębie dwóch części. Pierwsza, pt. Z recenzji dr hab. Anny Majewskiej-Tworek, prof. UWr

Responding to the pandemic situation and the related restrictions, members of Student Research Group of Glottodidactics at the University of Lodz affiliated with the Department of Applied and Cultural Linguistics decided to create an educational account on Instagram “Try some Polish” and publish content related to the Polish language and culture. The profile consists of three main sections: lexical, where new vocabulary asscociated to specific topic apears entertaining, which is based on publihsing language games and plays activating the recipients; and cultural, which contains interesting information on Polish culture in its broad sense. After the analysis the statistics of the published posts and after conducting the survey among the account’s followers, it may be concluded that the virtual didactic activity of the students and PhD candidates is positvely perceived by learners of Polish language, and Instagram might be a suitable platform to support of didactic process.

- Keywords:phonetics; Finnish; online teaching; games
- Summary/Abstract:Due to the pandemic, all the courses at the Institute of Scandinavian and Finnish Studies at the University of Gdańsk were organised online during the academic year 2020—2021. Due to this, teachers did not have access to the Language Lab, which is specially designed for speaking activities and teaching phonetics. Therefore, the course had to be planned again by modifying the exercises to be taught online. Phonetics combines theory with practical exercises such as dictations, games, and pair work. The aim of the exercises, often carried out through a game play, is to teach the students how the Finnish sound system differs from the Polish one (Polish being the native language of the students) and familiarise them with these sounds. Several aspects were chosen for the article to show how a course of phonetics and Language Lab activities can be organised online. The article also covers the importance of teaching and learning phonetics and why games are a crucial part of teaching for various reasons, such as offering the students a stress-free environment to practice what they are being taught and interact with each other.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of the paper is to present the current state of research in the field of positive psychology and its applications to teaching/ learning languages to older adults. For many years, cognitive perspective had dominated research in applied linguistics. In recent years, however, a growing popularity of positive psychology and focus on positive emotions can be observed. In the first part of the paper, the introduction of positive psychology to education and language teaching will be described including Seligman’s PERMA and Oxford’s EMPHATICS models. In is model, Seligman hypothesized that 5 elements account for a general wellbeing: positive emotions (P), engagement (E), developing positive interpersonal relationship (R), finding meaning (M) and recognizing areas of accomplishment and achievement (A). The paper distinguishes between the two periods: the early period started by MacIntyre and Gregersen (2012-2015) and the current period which started in 2016 (the flourishing of positive psychology in education). Positive psychology research will be presented as well and possible implications of positive psychology in teaching of older adults.

I assumed that regional culturemes should be understood as elements characteristic for individual areas of Poland and sometimes for the whole country at the same time. The extracted local culturemes belong, first of all, to high, popular and folk culture. Their selection and placement in books allows us to conclude which lexemes, according to the authors, should be learned by foreigners.

The materials are intended for the first hours of teaching groups at the elementary level, assuming that for the students the main goal of the classes is to overcome the communication barrier as quickly as possible - grammatical correctness is a less important issue for them. The authors tried to show that from the very first lessons it is possible to learn and consolidate not only vocabulary and phrases, but also grammatical forms in dialogues close to natural, and that teaching grammatical correctness does not have to be inextricably linked with the so-called drill exercises, which usually do not activate students.
