Summary/Abstract: Turkish science fiction dates back to the early years of the twentieth century and serious development has been seen ever since. The writers, who escaped from the darkness of the First World War and took refuge in utopian science fiction, added the excitement created by science and technology to their texts over time. Turkish writers, who followed the science fiction works from the West and made efforts for the development of this genre, produced very qualified works that could compete with their contemporaries at some points. However, due to some historical, social, and economic problems, it was not possible for these works to meet readers in the West. In this anthology, the works of Turkish science fiction writers are brought together for the first time in English. Contemporary science fiction writers have written short stories for this anthology. Hence, the resulting diversity of stories represents a contribution to science fiction literature. An important feature of the anthology is that it includes examples showing how science and technology are perceived philosophically by authors outside of Europe and America. Since literature is an indispensable resource to investigate the equivalent of science fiction, which was born with modernism, in “post-modern” societies. This anthology of Turkish science fiction will be an important Non-Western SF source for both science fiction readers and researchers.

- Summary/Abstract:“This won’t work, my dear. That’s the casual service tray. Is that the way I showed you? You should take out the silver one. These napkins are not folded correctly. Börek looks good but be careful, don’t scatter while cutting, ok?” She stepped out of the kitchen, headed towards the bedroom, and checked herself in the mirror. Her bun was all right. She had it sprayed amply at the hairdresser to keep it tight. She was invited to a dinner party tonight, so she needed to get through the day without messing up her hair. The blouse looked fashionable. Was the skirt a little bit tight? No, no, it is all right, she thought. She walked to the living room and checked the surface of the coffee table with her finger. No dust, good. The doorbell rang. “Gizem, get the door,” she called out. Gizem’s slippers were heard hitting against her heels. Walking through the hall to welcome her guest, Lale glanced at the antique mirror on the wall to check her image one last time.

- Summary/Abstract:“We might be getting drawn into a trap, boss. Let’s head b–” This was the last thing I heard from Barmeley. He wasn’t the talkative type, but his actions would tell you much more than his words. I could be seeing him and the others today if only I could’ve known beforehand what hid inside that place. The old ones always told me that mourning over the past and what has been done is futile, but I don’t believe this will ever be possible after what I’ve been through. But, oh well, you now want to know what has happened to my men and me, and I won’t be holding back the truth just because it is hard for me to talk about. We will have to travel back two years for the events that unfolded on that day. I will be recording this log in secret; then, it will be promptly put back on some dusty shelf. For the person who finds this log, good luck listening. You will need it.

How often did I tell them that I didn't want to, to no end...Wait a minute! I think I am starting to feel a tingling. It’s like I turned on the TV and am trying to adjust the broadcast properly. Oh, yes, just as I thought...Everyone is standing above me with curious eyes. It is all crystal clear now. I see it clearly now. After 82 years, I see the world with a clarity that I am not used to or have somewhat forgotten. - Summary/Abstract:Utter darkness, sound sleeps, and a life that had lost its purpose and meaning. An incomplete life where there is no difference between dream and reality within the labyrinth of consciousness, unsatisfied by science and faith. Is sleeping the only thing to do? Or is humanity always asleep? Even if one is not aware of it, is the desire to sleep a way back to reality, a ritual of feeling one’s own existence? To remember dreams is sometimes so difficult and sometimes so easy. To remember those that make one suffer, arouse the senses, and set one in motion, however, is not that difficult. An endless search that relentlessly desires the missing thing and the self.

His heart was beating as if to burst open his chest, and sweat oozed from the roots of his hair, rolling down his neck onto the already-soaked pillow. Touched his head, which was burning. He rolled his fingers over the scar that trespassed his entire forehead. It felt as if his heart was beating there. They were in restaurants, classes, museums, and concert halls – chatting, singing, and even arguing out loud. No suspicion, only confidence and joy. - Summary/Abstract:“My doppelganger from a parallel universe stole my girlfriend!” he approached and interjected while I was waiting for a ferry by the sea. He must have thought that waiting for the same ferry in the same place made us friends. I am not generally a social person. I was just in my early twenties when I discovered that keeping a distance from people kept me from having unnecessary conversations. This was also the time when we had just discovered the existence of parallel universes, or rather the ability to travel between parallel universes. What’s more, the discovery seemed to take place at roughly the same time in all parallel universes. The transition was so easy that millions of people suddenly threw aside the lives they had and applied to the transfer offices for travel. I say, “threw aside the lives they had,” because you will appreciate that it is not so easy to find your home again once you start traveling through countless parallel universes. Once you decide to go, it is quite likely a one-way trip. As a result, transitioning was easy, but getting approval wasn’t. After months of investigation, you would only get a travel permit if your reasons were found to be justified. Of course, that was almost twenty years ago. Now the process goes much faster.

On the lower side was an old wooden railing that was worn down in various places. That’s where he was placed during the hearing. Next to him was another row where his attorney sat.
