- Summary/Abstract:In 1911 the Academy of Skills sent their expedition represented by Eugeniusz Barwiński,Ludwik Birkenmajer and Jan Łoś. They examined the collections in Skokloster with relatively little attention to detail. It has not been until recently that the polonica were thoroughly investigated and analyzed. The academic study of those literary texts was performed by a group of scholars under the supervision of professor Alina Nowicka-Jeżowa, forming a part of a Literary Studies Research Group of the Section of Old Polish Literature and Culture. They have published a catalogue of antique books and a few volumes of inedita (unpublished literary works).

- Summary/Abstract:In Cracow, in the first half of the twentieth century, worked eleven main middle schools, each of which had its own library, often accumulated already in the nineteenth century or earlier. For example, saved printed reports (55 yearbooks) management of II National Middle School and High School named St. Jack (1857-1950) in the text an attempt is made to present the activities of the school library. The content associated with it were divided into several groups: people, finance, standardization, statistics. Based on this information, we can recreate some basic processes in contemporary educational library – collections, preparation, structure, store and share collections.

The author indicates the main lines of research and demonstrates the impact of foreign literature on the Polish works through the analysis of foreign bibliographic citations. The analysis of the formal and material characteristics of the cited documents allows to show relations between the native and foreign scientific literature, with emphasis on revealing how research topics and academic disciplines are interwoven.

- Summary/Abstract:Book and press relationship is important element of cultural phenomenon. Its particular dynamism appeared in 19th and first half of 20th century. Book was promoted mainly in social-cultural periodicals which existed since thirtieth years of 20th century. The catholic papers between 1918 and 1939, 1945 and 1953 were the another group of them. Author wrote in the article about most popular of them like „Kultura” (1936-1939), „Tęcza”(1927-1939), „Verbum” (1927-1939), „Tygodnik Powszechny” (1945-1953), „Tygodnik Warszawski” (1945-1948), „Głos Katolicki” (1945-1948). Frequently form of encourage mentto read books were advertisements of publishing companies and book stores. After them were books reviews, information of the latest publications, notes of book events, articles about books and reading.

- Summary/Abstract:The aim of this article is to present the process of organising the book system in Lodz in 1945-1950. In this period many different kinds of book institutions were created (libraries, publishing houses, printing-houses, professional organisations, didactic, scientific and research institutions connected with books), which was presented in context of,both local and outside, cultural, scientific, educational and social-political conditions. In this study the author also took into consideration the historical aspect of the analysed issue – the relations of the presented system (or their scarceness) to the world of books of the pre-war Lodz.

- Summary/Abstract:Within the manuscript resources of the Library of the Lodz University, among the materials remaining after professor Jan Muszkowski, are stored documents referring to “Czytelnik” Publishing Cooperative. The fragmented and uneven collection of preserved materials to some extend reflects the works, which professor was in charge of after 1945. It also indicates the nature of his contacts with the leadership of the institution in Warsaw, as well as its authors, co-workers and petitioners. The article presents notes (both hand-written and typed) made by Jan Muszkowski on editorial meetings, as well as addendums and comments to the lists of manuscripts being considered and sent to print, correspondence relating to the editorial work and organizational matters of the publishing house. The fragments of the archive discussed in the paper date back to the period between the beginning of April 1945 and the end of June 1946

- Summary/Abstract:Józef Grycz, one of the most eminent librarians, significantly contributed to organizing libraries. In 1928-1930 he managed the Kórnik Library. Later he worked in the Ministry of Religious Denominations and Public Enlightenment, and was responsible for establishing the National Library. A proposal for organizing a network of public libraries, elaborated by Grycz, was brought to a parliamentary commission in 1934, yet it was implemented only during the times of the People’s Republic of Poland. Most notably,in the times of the Second Republic Grycz developed unified rules for alphabetical catalogues which he then introduced throughout Poland. During the Nazi occupation he was the manager of the National Library, transformed into the Second Branch of Staatsbibliothek Warschau. Approved at this position by Polish underground resistance movement, he provided illicit access to and protected the library holdings. The course book entitled Bibliotekarstwo praktyczne w zarysie (1945) written by Grycz provided foundations for the process of restoring Polish libraries.

Performed in the article detailed review of current literature on the staff of the Institut shaw that there is no current studies on even the most eminent people,including the founder of the Institute, count Józef Maksymilian Ossoliński. The author points out, at the same time, the most urgent needs for biographical studies on the staff of the Ossolinski National Institut.

- Summary/Abstract:The development of the Polish bibliological biography is best evidenced by the number of biographical directories and collective biographies of book people. In the analysis of publications from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the emphasis was placed on the involvement of cultural and scientific institutions in the creation of those publications. In the article, the author presents the contributions of particular institutions to the development of bibliological biographies. In particular, the following institutions are involved in this process: the Słownik pracowników książki polskiej Laboratory by the Chair of Library and Information Science at the University of Lodz; the Old Polish Bibliography Laboratory at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences; Polish Librarians’ Association; Wroclaw Librarians’ Corporation; Kujawy and Pomerania Cultural Society; Lublin Society of Book Lovers; and numerous libraries. The aforementioned institutions were presented against the background of biographical directories which they helped create.

- Summary/Abstract:The article refers to the modern theory of books and bibliology relationships with other areas. In a number of his scientific publications we can find the expressions of diversity research. Dunin traces culture books and trying to attempt to find their reflection of human behaviour. The outline of anthropological theory proposed by Dunin’s book is a search for an interesting example of the borders of contemporary book science research and voice in the debate about the identity of the science of book.
