- Summary/Abstract:The aim of this article is to present various perspectives on the problem of mercy of God in the ontext of his justice. The first part briefly relates actions following the Golden Calf incident in Ex. 32, which led to the declaration of attributive formula in 34:6-7. Then, a fuller consideration is given to the etymology of rahûm, the first of seven positive adjectives describing YHWH’s character, which in a sense is principal. It is observed that the presence of two negative descriptions relating to the character in Ex 34:7 probably safeguard against a claim that God can become indifferent to justice in showing mercy. The third section presents a table which shows the way attributive formula is used in various traditions of the Hebrew Bible. It discloses that the predominant accent in those is on mercy. The following part presents a few theological perspectives which may help to unravel a mystery of merciful God, who at times is pictured as violent and unjust in his judgements. A consideration is given to the notion of evolutionary nature of divine revelation. Two proposals are given, i.e. that it is worth‑considering a collective view of God’s people as one persona who experiences some loss in her body in order to receive mercy, and that it may be that in order to fully grasp the bright of divine mercy, first one needs to see the dark of judgement. Finally, it is offered that viewing God as a passionate Divine Husband who faced adultery on the part of his wife can aid in understanding his burning anger which leads to violence. Yet, at the same time it is argued that the principle of imitatio Dei would be unacceptable for modern men in such a context (physical abuse of the woman by her husband). In conclusion, it is reaffirmed that accent in Exod. 32–34 is on divine mercy. But this mercy cannot be taken as a given but should be regarded as God’s act of free will.

- Summary/Abstract:Mercy is one of the main thread of the history of Christianity. This topic is also important to write down the Fathers of the Church. An important period in the evolution of the concept of charity in the Christian life was a historical time in which to live and work came to the bishop of Carthage, or holy Cyprian. The approach to the problem of mercy was more practitioner than a theorist, and therefore in his works, we see how the historical realities shaped his view of the virtue of mercy.

His beliefs was rooted in the theological anthropology, which emphasized the dignity of man – who has rights as being created in the image and likeness of God. Teaching of this Church Father living at the turn of the 4th and 5th century in spite of civilization changes is still current and worthy of conducting an analysis.

- Summary/Abstract:The notion of mercy entails the problem of its relation to justice. It has been a subject explored by many theologians. The problem is deepened especially in the field of soteriology. The article discusses selected conceptions of God’s mercy in the scholastic presentations of the saving significance of Christ according to Anselm of Canterbury, Peter Abelard and Thomas Aquinas. Generally posed problem has been profiled by raising a question about the difficulty of coherent understanding of the mystery of merciful God (“confronted with God”) and the nature of salvific impact of mercy on human being (“confronted with human being”). Thoughts of three authors presented in this way reveal three different notions of the nature and effects of God’s mercy.

- Summary/Abstract:The specific form of experiencing God's mercy is the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation. That is what John Paul II repeated many a time and what, in the bygone year, Pope Francis called to mind in his conversation with Andrea Tornielli («Mercy is God’s Name»). In our homeland such an example, quite little‑known, is undoubtedly pr. T. Fedorowicz, the perennial chaplain of the Institution for the Blind in Laski and the chaplain of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Helpers of the Cross, as well as the confessor and spiritual confidant of Karol/Charles Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II. The following article is an attempt to remind of this charismatic confessor and spiritual leader and to recapture his reflections concerning the sacrament of forgiveness. The present reflection will consist of two parts. The first one will try to show confession in pr. T. Fedorowicz’s articles/speeches. The other one will focus on the confessor's most important characteristics (on the basis of the available correspondence between John Paul II and pr. T. Fedorowicz, as well as on the basis of the interview with pr. T. Fedorowicz).

- Summary/Abstract:Chriara Lubich’s (1920–2008) experience of the infinite God’s love towards a man is most completely expressed by Jesus’ cry on the Cross: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mk 15:34). Words drawn from Psalm 22 express the profoundness and radicalism of the Son’s Kenosis which is realized in the act of incarnation and salvation. However, the key to understand those is rather not the greatness of suffering, but the inconceivable vastness of love leading to Christ ‑ to the encounter and identification with the misery of human sin. This consideration, fitting into the Church’s Extraordinary Jubilee, is a look at the Forsaken through the lens of God’s mercy. Its starting point are the first years of the Focolari community when Chiara slowly discovered His peculiar nature ‑ her letters, published mostly in 2010 by an Italian publishing house Città Nuova and dated 1943–1949, are the witness of that time. A major part of this spiritual journey is also the summer of 1949 which opened a chapter of particular mystical light in Chiara’s life ‑ known as Paradiso ‘49. Further on, a question arises on the ways and message of merciful God’s revelation in Jesus Forsaken: on the possible path leading a man to the intimacy with the Father and on the status of sin and suffering in this context. The final part describes Chiara’s existential attitude which began in her experience: her going out to the world, the nature of her relationship with people and with the universe.

- Summary/Abstract:In his interview with Jaques Servais the pope Benedict XVI spoke in a very positive way bout the fact that pope Francis preaches so often about God’s mercy. Commenting on this pastoral method, he said that the story of the Good Samaritan is especially attractive for a modern man. According to him, it stems from the inner desire of the heart to meet the Good Samaritan who will take care of him and lead him to safety. In the end, this is a desire to experience God’s mercy and loving care. This article looks at other teachings of Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI on the parable of the Good Samaritan. The pope invites us to set out on the way of forming our hearts by asking ourselves “How to live?” After cleaning up our relationships of love with God and with other people we should stop analyzing who do I own love and become neighbors to others. The process of shaping our hearts will be complete once our hearts become “the heart that sees”. Sees the needs of others and notices the spiritual poverty. In both of those situations the Christian who lives the program of the Good Samaritan will try to fulfill those needs.

- Summary/Abstract:Contemporary times are the kairós of grace and Pope Francis is its prophet who gives an example of how to be a person of mercy by his words and actions. His teaching has a solid base in the Bible and theology, and fits into the theology of John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Another of its important aspects is its being grounded in humanism, human sensitivity and experience. In this way, spreading the truth about mercy carries a strong message and is an answer to the needs of contemporary people. Being the heart of the Gospel, acts of mercy are the center of life and mission of the Church. Thus, the announcement of The Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, a time to experience God’s mercy through people, to show mercy towards one’s neighbors and to make people conscious about the necessity of mercy, is not a surprise. Mercy is one of the main motifs of Francis’ teaching. It covers topics such as: mercy as the key to understand Christianity, theological foundations of the truth about mercy, various dimensions of mercy, signs of mercy and mercy as present in the everyday life of the Church. Still, it all comes down to the importance of grace and of accepting God’s love which precedes, anticipates and redeems. God’s greatness allows justice and mercy to coexist and shows God’s omnipotence. Christians should take the example of God and the Son. It fits evangelization in its broad understanding and it shows itself in forgiveness, generosity, fighting against indifference, helping those in need and reaching out to people of different religions. The service of the missionaries of mercy, which has been prolonged for indefinite time, is a special sign of the mercy as taken up by the Church. Mercy should be also celebrated in the liturgy, especially in the sacraments of Eucharist, Penance and Holy Orders. There, mercy is celebrated as well as put into effect leading to the change of a baptized. In this way, God gives His love to His people, which is always first and sets no spiritual nor moral conditions. It also becomes necessary to stick to the Bible. Acts of mercy are also: evangelization, pastoral services (testimony, homily, catechism, biblical apostolate) as well deeds and works of mercy. Finally, a mission of giving hope, closeness and support is also vital as it gives an answer to suffering, lack of understanding and other life difficulties. Mercy should therefore be expressed in the co‑participation in others’ experiences.

- Summary/Abstract:The article indicates the necessity of combining the message of revelations given to Saint Faustine with an in‑ depth theological reflection and with the liturgy of the Church, i.e. the holy sacraments, in particular with the Eucharist. At the beginning it explains liturgical worship as a work of Jesus Christ, a reliable and merciful Priest, and of the people of God. It presents mercy as a ”real sacrifice” which must not be left out of the properly understood Christian worship. It then describes the Eucharist in historical terms as a sacrament of mercy in its fuller and fuller understanding. It analyses Mass orations on mercy aimed at introducing participants of the liturgy into the experience of the mystery of Redemption. It explains the notion of Christian spiritual experience and provides two examples of the mystic experience of the Eucharist as a sacrament of mercy (Saint Faustina Kowalska and Saint Vincent Pallotti).

The polish context required to start with a short introducing of theology of disability which is completely unknown in Polish. In order to clearly present the problem, paper shows two attitudes towards people with disabilities which in spite of their similarity in the external manifestations are essentially different in intentions and thinking about disability. The article wants to show the way which must be undertaken by the Christians to finally erase the boundary between abled and disabled members of the Church. Full inclusion of people with disabilities is necessary not only for them, but for all members of the Church to truly achieve ecclesiastical communion and to benefit from the gift of every human person.

- Summary/Abstract:At the beginning of this work are clarified the terms “public revelation” and “private revelations” and the relationship between these concepts is shown. Subsequently, there is the representation of the phenomenon of the apparitions of Medjugorje and their current legal status. Underlined is the fact that so far they are the subject of research by the Church, which has not issued a final opinion, neither confirming or negating. The main issue of this paper is then presented, “May mercy be treated as a path to peace”? Given the fact that the Balkan Peninsula was the area of numerous conflicts due to religious and ethnic divisions, the main objective of the coming of Our Lady of Medjugorje may be inferred. It is the reconciliation of people with God and people with one another. The concept of peace in the message of Medjugorje should be understood not only as a multidimensional peace in the sense of absence of war, but most of all as God’s peace reigning in the human heart, which radiates in all directions; families, parishes, communities and ultimately the world. In the following paragraphs evaluations of the image of God and the Mother of God which emerged from the Medjugorje apparitions have taken place. This is followed by a detailed analysis of the content of the messages of the Queen of Peace under the terms of their motives for deeds of mercy regarding the soul and body. Furthermore, the issue of the sacrament of penance and conversion, from which is sprung the foundation of the whole Medjugorje message, is discussed. This work emphasizes that from the phenomenon of the apparitions in Medjugorje emerges a picture of a loving God and Our Lady of Mercy. Present within this are numerous motives, for instance deeds of mercy with regard to the soul and body. In summary, a key proposal stating that in one’s life accepting the mercy of God and the life of the attitude of mercy towards others is one of the main ways to achieve peace, both personal and social.

- Summary/Abstract:The article concerns mercy of God in the light of the Koran. It aims to reconstruct the Koranic understanding of the concept of mercy with special emphasis on its (un) limitedness. Semantic structure analysis of the Arabic word “mercy” (rahma) in the Koranic uses has been conducted as well as the impact of historical‑cultural context on the word meaning was taken into account. A diachronic approach to the Koranic suras was applied. According to the research God’s mercy in the Koran (particularly in the suras from the Meccan period) is of universal character. The humankind as a whole can benefit from it. It manifests itself through God’s kindness, benevolence, favors (for example it is seen in provision of life’s requirements, in revelation – in sending messengers and His giving of Scriptures). Those who believe in Him are treated with special generosity and care. Additionally, thanks to God’s mercy people are able to experience salvation during their earthly life as well as His readiness to forgive them and admit them to paradise. However, this aspect of God’s mercy is applicable only to believers, i.e. to those who believe in one God and His messenger – Muhammad. Unbelievers (according the Koran the pagan Arabs and the majority of Jews and Christians) are excluded from it. They will be condemned to eternal damnation. Such concept of God’s mercy is characteristic particularly for the suras of the Medinan period. On account of the Koranic concept of God’s nature and His relation to humans divine mercy is devoid of the affectionate intimacy, the tenderness and the responsibility. The article concerns mercy of God in the light of the Koran. - Summary/Abstract:The paper covers reasons and signs of the interest in the phenomenon of mercy by Polish positivists (generation starting their works after failed January Uprising in 1863). Their literature, journalism and letters include multiple remarks about both God’s and people’s mercy. It seems that mercy understood as philanthropy was one of the most important, although not direct, postulates of their sociopolitical program. It was also a psychological factor aiding the rationalization of the effects of captivity they experienced. In the religious aspect, the need to experience God’s mercy as a chance for the people and the world to be saved, many a time discussed in positivists’ writings, led to the fascination with this God’s attribute in XX century and to His mystery being discovered more completely in the modern times.

- Summary/Abstract:The article “Organs’ transplations in selected documents of different Churches, as a last act of charity of the donor and the issue of consent for organs donation” raises the question of the perception of organ donation as an act of mercy, or the last act of charity shown by donor to organs’ recipient. Churches almost unanimously see organs’ donation as the last act of charity of the donor to the recipient. The most emotions on the issue of organ donation, as well as the perception of organ donation as an act of mercy, makes a way of expressing consent for organ removal. The Roman Catholic Church and the Churches of the Orthodox tradition very strongly emphasize that consent to remove organ from a donor should be of a formal consent given by the same donor. Some churches allow for the possibility of organs removal when permission is given by the next of kin of the donor. The vast majority of the Churches oppose the so‑ called. the principle of presumed consent, the admissibility of which we see in the bioethics documents of some Protestant churches. Very firmly and resolutely the need for formal consent for the procurement of organs emphasized Pope John Paul II. Formal way of expressing consent of organ donation highlights the fact that showing compassion is not passive behavior, but requires human’s activity, who shows mercy.

As a category from the sphere of axiology can lead to many complications, especially when trying to apply it directly to financial operations. The mercy phenomenon for many is so specific that it can not be understood without taking into account the religious order. Hence, some researchers need to delve into the theological heritage, to more clearly elucidate the reflection contexts, because they can provide inspiration to think in a slightly different paradigm. The goal of this article is to describe the problem of mercy on the grounds of financial law.
