Summary/Abstract: The author presents selected problems of Chinese – Polish intercultural communication from a university didactics perspective. The text is the result of the cooperation between Warsaw University and Sichuan University in Chengdu. The observations included in the article summarise 30-hour-courses in intercultural communication, which I taught in English to Chinese students at Sichuan University and in Polish to Chinese students, who followed Polish+ programme at Warsaw University. Even though there were major cultural and communication differences, communicating with Chinese students during the course proved to be effective and free of intercultural conflicts. It required, however, paying more attention to communication and, above all, breaking high context communication i.e. messages conveyed with the use of polite forms, questions, paraphrases, which prevented understatements. As both sides were open to cultural differences and empathic, it was easier to achieve the goal.
