Summary/Abstract: Hotspots are speech acts and sequences typical for a language and culture and hotwords are words typical for a language and culture. This paper examines hotspots and hotwords in stories about Mostar by Hamza Humo and their equivalents in Gero Fischer's translation to German. It was assumed that the chosen correspondences are sometimes inappropriate and that sometimes it is better, as the translator did, to keep the original lexeme in the translation. Hotspots and hotwords were initially selected intuitively in this study. The individual lexemes were examined with the help of the dictionaries, of a survey with students at the University of Sarajevo and with German teachers and of wordles by Duden online and DWDS. Emphasis was placed on whether the correspondences on the denotative as well as on the connotative level coincide. The individual hypotheses could be confirmed.
