Summary/Abstract: The research problem of the article is the standard German language varieties spoken in German-speaking countries and their application in teaching German as a foreign language (DaF-Unterricht). The diachronic investigation includes Communicative didactics with its intercultural approach, ABCD theses, the DACH principle and cultural and regional studies as a guide to teaching linguistic and cultural content in DaF lessons, which is the theoretical basis for further exemplary studies. The pluricentric aspect of the German language in DaF lessons is examined through the following question: Do the textbooks support cultural and pluricentric aspects in our DaF lessons? – How does eating rolls or bread, riding a bike or a bicycle affect communication? DaF lessons should enable the learners to relate such things to specific German-speaking countries and thus understand their cultural and regional traits. The paper deals with the possibilities, problems and suggestions that are based not only on the textbooks but also on literary works, authentic texts, quizzes, Internet researches and other similar content.
