Summary/Abstract: Learning communities are becoming an increasingly popular concept at all levels. They have a positive impact on students' academic performance and experiences, on faculty and administrators' engagement and improvement, and have a social impact. The purpose of this report is to describe what learning communities are and to highlight their unique characteristics as a way to support and engage young people and the university's role in sharing and transferring knowledge, collaboration, and youth involvement in important community issues. An example of a learning community is presented and the key benefits for all involved are outlined.
