Summary/Abstract: The ability to communicate in two or more languages has become a quotidian need nowadays; the individual’s frequent exposure to different languages is a natural outcome of educational policies, globalization, and cultural openness. The mysterious phenomenon that people, who can already speak one language, can learn other languages has been widely researched in the last few decades. Language acquisition, bilingualism, multilingualism, code-switching, and language transfer are only some of the essential key concepts of second language acquisition (SLA), generally accepted as a branch of applied linguistics. The theories and findings of SLA research have a great impact on the process of instructed second language acquisition in classroom settings.
