Summary/Abstract: Since the (in)famous ALPAC report in 1966, multitudes of opinions have been presented on machine translation (MT). The present article focuses on approaches to MT in the 21st century, including fear of translators, gisting, and MT as a built-in feature of computer-assisted translation tools (CAT tools). The conclusion discusses the possibility whether both MT and CAT tools may enhance translation efficiency, including productivity and consistency.
