Summary/Abstract: This article aims to identify the main strengths and weaknesses of Česká Lípa, which may affect its shrinking represented by the decline of population. To achieve the goal was conducted brief analysis of data relating to population and evaluated selected questions from questionnaire survey conducted with inhabitants as a part of processing a strategic plan for the city. At a public discussion of the strategic plan was created a sematic map of the city with the inhabitants. The results of the article show that the main factors leading to a shrinking of Česká Lípa can be found in the social and economic area. On the other side to strengths belong to appearance of the historic city center, the level of technical infrastructure, the conditions for preschool education and public transport.
