Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of the public administration in terms of responding to the request based on the Act no. 106/1999 Coll., about free access to information at the level of municipalities with extended competence presented on the basis of a regional comparison. Evaluation was done on the basis of provided or not provided information, assessment of municipalities responding in the statutory limit of 15 days and the amount of funding required for the information provided. Simple relative indicators were used for comparison. Interpretation of the results is illustrated by graphics processing based on the share of municipalities with extended competence in the regions. Information is provided by 88 % of municipalities, all municipalities from Liberec, Pardubice, Olomouc Region and Vysočina region provided required information. Municipalities in Jihočeský region were evaluated as worst in terms of provided information. 75 % of municipalities responded in time of 15 days. Olomouc and Vysočina region were evaluated as the best in terms of reaction in statutory limit. The worst was Plzeň region. 10 % of responding municipalities demanded financial compensation for the costs associated with extraordinarily extensive search.
