Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of Country studies in teaching foreign languages from the synchronic and diachronic points of view. The article is divided into several parts. In the first part there is given the historical view on Country study. In the second part the cognitive, communicative and crosscultural approaches at the teaching of Country studies are disscused. In the third part the attention is focused on the issue of crosscultural Country studies. There is given its definition. In the fourth part there are discussed the problems connecting with using the literary texts and pictures in Country studies. In the last part the role of the Internet both in Country studies and cross-cultural teaching is presented. The article concludes with a summary of the problems investigated.
