Summary/Abstract: Media literacy is becoming an increasingly worrying problem in modern societies.2021 was declared as a year of information bankruptcy by Richard Edelman‘s annual Barometer of Confidence survey. Not everything in this perspective is blаck, as this is the year in which it is high time to begin the process of restoring trust in societies. The media must play a key role, as an even stricter arbiter of the truth. The audience is expected to begin to demonstrate higher media literacy and the ability to make choices based on objective information rather than fear, external pressure, or conspiracy theories. At the same time, journalists need to develop new skills and tactics to defend long-standing practices of gaining public trust – namely, by adapting the foundations of journalistic theory, standards, and good practices to the needs of the digital environment.
