Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to present the importance of teaching specialized languages and terminology to students studying translation and interpreting with a special regard to the translator training BA programme offered by the Faculty of Technical and Human Sciences, Târgu-Mureş (Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania). The paper also deals with the practical aspects of teaching specialized languages from the viewpoint of translation studies. After defining specialized languages in general, the paper briefly presents the differences between teaching a foreign language and a certain specialized register of a foreign language (for example, medical English, legal English, business English, etc.). Furthermore, the paper presents the shortcomings of teaching specialized languages in Romania and Transylvania. Another aim of the paper is to shed light on how the teachers of the Faculty of Technical and Human Sciences, Târgu-Mureş – based on the curriculum of the specialization – plan their specialized language courses for translation trainees and on how their methods support students to gain knowledge in the field of specialized translation.
