Summary/Abstract: A significant part of the 17th-century Romanian literature was written under the aegis of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation. The Hungarian influence on several old Romanian texts can be traced back to the rise of Calvinism. The Hungarian bearings, called “Hungaricum” by Gedeon Borsa, manifest in various ways in the Romanian texts of the 17th and 18th centuries. There are some Romanian texts for which Hungarian literature stands as a source (see the catechetical literature and other ecclesiastical texts), but there are also some in which the Hungarian text is present throughout the whole publication (see the Romanian–Hungarian bilingual texts). At the same time, the Hungarian language and culture also indirectly influenced the Romanian language(mainly Transylvanian) literacy, not only as a tool but also as a model(see the use of Hungarian spelling and the Latin alphabet). This paper aims to explore those Hungarian bearings through which the Romanian texts of the period concerned can (also) be the subject of Hungarian studies.
