Summary/Abstract: The Bologna Process is an important process of harmonizing different higher education systems in Europe, with the aim of creating the European Higher Education Area and promoting the European higher education system at the world level in order to increase its international competitiveness. The Bologna Process is aimed at ensuring the comparability of standards and the quality of qualifications in higher education, and was opened on June 19, 1999, when ministers from 29 European countries met in Bologna and signed an important agreement, the Bologna Declaration, which officially marked the beginning of this process. This process influenced the greater mobility of students and professors, the exchange of knowledge and experience, but also improved the concept of lifelong learning in Europe. In the paper, we talk about the importance of promoting the European area of higher education, but also the functioning of the education system in Italy.
