Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on some of the essential characteristics of precedent phenomena (stability and idiomaticity), which are crucial for realizing their transformational potential in media discourse. The working hypothesis posits that embedding one text within another draws the reader’s attention while simultaneously enhancing the message’s expressiveness. Additionally, the activation of associative links and the semantic connections to the original source result in a manipulative effect on the audience. Precedent phenomena, in both their canonical and transformed forms, function as expressive-evaluative tools in media discourse, influencing through semantic layering and expanding interpretative possibilities.
