Summary/Abstract: The collective volume “Linguocultural Emblematics: Projections and Interpretations. A Collection of Scientific Articles” systematizes the results of a joint Russian-Bulgarian study on the verbalization of cultural memory through precedent phenomena in the thesaurus of the younger generation in Russia and Bulgaria. The publication includes six long articles (over 20 pages each) and five standard full-length articles that explore the similarities and differences in the language of modern young Bulgarians and Russians; they form the primary target group of the research. The overall picture of precedent phenomena is complemented by texts related to Serbian linguoculture and language used as a control tool to determine whether the identified general trends are presented in many Slavic cultures or result from a coincidental overlap between Russian and Bulgarian. The precedent fund and cultural knowledge are analyzed using a wide range of texts from various genres, as well as associative and sociolinguistic experiments. Assumptions are made about the active processes within the language of the younger generation of speakers of the languages studied. Understanding these processes is essential for ensuring the adequate perception of different types of texts and facilitating effective cultural dialogue.Precedent phenomena are interpreted as linguocultural emblemas in their full diversity of projections and interpretations while precedentology is viewed as the theory of linguocultural emblems. The collective monograph marks the beginning of a new academic research endeavor of the Plovdiv School of Linguoculturology dedicated to a more comprehensive and in-depth study of linguocultural emblematics as an essential segment of cultural emblematics as a whole.

- Summary/Abstract:This article was born out of the author’s privilege and responsibility to contribute to the constructive debate on the clarification and lucidity of the terminological apparatus of the phenomenology of precedent texts. The author’s input is through the lens of linguocultural and linguocognitive studies. The precedents are regarded as linguocultural emblematics and precedentology (phenomenology of precedent texts) as a theory of linguocultural emblems. This study launches another research challenge for the Plovdiv School of Linguocultural Studies, a challenge aimed at a more comprehensive and in-depth academic study on linguocultural emblematics as an important sector of cultural emblematics.

- Keywords:culture; cultural; national cultural code; linguistic personality; intertextuality; precedent phenomena; intertextual thesaurus; cultural literacy; linguocultural emblematics
- Summary/Abstract:The paper deals with the language constituent of cultural memory and focuses on one of the ways of its expression believed to be prototypical – precedent names. It studies one group of them (the anthroponyms used to name European educational programmes) that haven’t been examined so far through the lens of precedent phenomena theory and in general – within the cognitive framework. Based on numerous examples in Bulgarian, it outlines the specific characteristics of these precedent phenomena found in the excerpts and thus illustrates their invariant perception and image in the linguistic consciousness of Bulgarian language speakers. The nondenotative usage of the names, according to the theory, is a sign of their precedent status. The study confirms the work hypothesis that these names (as it turned out – with the exception of one of them) can be considered to be precedent to a various degree for Bulgarian linguistic personality. This should be even more so for students who are closely related to these programmes. The paper is the first stage in the research of the abovementioned precedent names and provides a solid base for studying further and in more detail their presence in the thesaurus of Bulgarian students and thus – in their cultural memory.

- Keywords:precedent phenomena; stability; transformation; media discourse; functional potential; linguistic demagogy
- Summary/Abstract:This study focuses on some of the essential characteristics of precedent phenomena (stability and idiomaticity), which are crucial for realizing their transformational potential in media discourse. The working hypothesis posits that embedding one text within another draws the reader’s attention while simultaneously enhancing the message’s expressiveness. Additionally, the activation of associative links and the semantic connections to the original source result in a manipulative effect on the audience. Precedent phenomena, in both their canonical and transformed forms, function as expressive-evaluative tools in media discourse, influencing through semantic layering and expanding interpretative possibilities.

- Keywords:cultural memory; collective knowledge; linguoculturology; precedent phenomena; precedent speech formulas
- Summary/Abstract:Along with their communicative function, natural languages play a crucial role in preserving cultural memory, serving as repositories for historical events, values, stereotypes, and collective knowledge. This study focuses on so-called precedent phenomena and their use in both German and Bulgarian. These specific linguistic units are often excluded from dictionaries due to their varied forms and unconventional usage. Through a comparative analysis of precedent phenomena in both languages, this research identifies cultural differences and numerous similarities–such as common sources, comparable semantics, and functions in new discourse or contexts–demonstrating the universality of collective consciousness and the cognitive mechanisms involved in conveying and interpreting objective reality.
