Summary/Abstract: Global instability caused by political crisis, military conflicts, low levels of economic and social security, climate change are just some of the factors increasing international migration. Pressed by the urgent need to leave their usual location, migrants sometimes choose to rush in search of better living conditions, without taking into account the established rules and norms for entering the territory of a foreign country. This in turn opens a niche for criminal circles that see an opportunity to increase quick and high profits, transporting migrants for a fee. However, this activity hides many risks – from putting the lives and health of migrants at risk, by benefiting organized criminal groups, which can subsequently invest the accumulated capital in other illegal activities, to complete instability in the state and a low level of trust among partners. The aim of this material is to clarify the trends and challenges that the Republic of Bulgaria is facing in relation to irregular migration taking place through the country.
