Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the horizons of the sustainable development as a conception of solving global (environment and economic) problems. The opportunities for the human resource development are explored in aspects relating to environmental sustainability (effective use of the natural resources, energy efficiency and green energy sources, waste management, water conservation, soil and air pollution, sustainable transport, environmental industries and services). The article considered publications in the mass media relating to eco business in the field of industry and technology (biofuels production, green energy, renewable energy technologies); the agriculture (bio farms, organic farming); tourism (eco-tourism, eco villages, rural tourism) and transport (use of electric cars, hybrids, eco trams) and also the national and European policies in support of the human resources development
